TRANSPORT
Transport bookings are organised by the managers of One Tree Island
to ensure local tide constraints are taken into account. All travel to
and from One Tree Island is weather dependent.
BY SEA. Transport to One Tree Island is via the daily
Australian Marine Experience launch service to Heron Island, then via
our station boat to One Tree Island.
The launch leaves Gladstone Marina at approx 11:00, with check–in
no later than 10:15.
The trip takes about two hours. Return run to the mainland, launch departs
Heron Island at approx 13:00, arriving in Gladstone at around 15:30.
We usually make a weekly trip to Heron Island on Thursday after the Wednesday
barge to collect food, equipment, etc. It is most cost effective if transfers
to One Tree Island are timed to coincide with our weekly trip. Transfers
to One Tree Island (OTI) can be organised for days other than our regular
run by chartering one of our vessels, but this is more costly. For large
groups (10+ ) direct travel to OTI from Gladstone by charter vessel may
be an option, please check with station staff.
COSTS:
Gladstone-Heron AME vessel; per person one way $100
OTI-Heron Transfer (regular run) per person one way $50
OTI-Heron - Orcinus charter, up to 4 people + equipment $165
OTI-Heron - Linckia II charter, up to 12 people + equipment $360
BY AIR. Australian Marine Helicopters, Gladstone, provide
a service to One Tree Island. The only way to guarantee travel times is
by chartering a helicopter. Luggage on the helicopter is limited to 15kg
per person.
COSTS:
OTI - Gladstone - Helicopter Charter, up to 5 or 6 people approx $2574*
OTI - Heron - Helicopter Charter, up to 5 or 6 people $990*
Standby rates: Heron - OTI – Gladstone or Gladstone – OTI
