Alastair Simpson

Alastair joined Protsville in 1994 as an undergraduate. He was been involved with several projects concerned with the ultrastructure, phylogenetics, systematics, biogeography and taxonomy of protists, using both morphological (light microscopy, TEM) and molecular techniques. Alastair completed his doctoral research on the evolutionary affinities of various free-living anaerobic flagellates - a project is aimed at assessing the relevence of the 'amitochondriate' protists in understanding the early evolution of eukaryotic cells. He was awarded the University's Jabez King Heydon prize for his doctoral thesis.

Alastair is now at Dalhousie University and his new address is: Department of Biology, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3H 4H7, Canada.
