The Research Committee and Head of School have long recognized the need for occasional funding for new initiatives in research or in the development of research capability. To try to fill this need, a sum of up to $15, 000 may be allocated by the Research Committee to fund research by any of the current research groups in SOBS who can demonstrate that an investment will result in acquisition of new types of external funding or external funding for a new development in an area of research.
A two-page summary of the proposed activity that includes a short introduction, the experimental plan and expected outcomes plus a one-page plan of action explaining how and when applications will be made for funding. The application should identify support from the relevant research group. It is mandatory that a method of accountability for progress on the project be included. This will involve reporting to a member of the Research Committee at agreed stages of the project’s development. The proposal must also contain an idea how the money disbursed to the research group may be repaid at a later date to the Research Committee.
