Urban bushland remnants in the Sydney region: biodiveristy in Australia's biggest backyard. |
To investigate the effects of urban fragmentation on ecological processes and the stability of woodland remnants in a fragmented land system. The main process to be investigated is herbivory and the factors which regulate it such as predation from both vertebrate and invertebrate predators. Different sized patches of vegetation around Sydney on the Hawkesbury Sandstone will be looked at to investigate differences in folivorous invertebrates and avian assemblages and to determine how observed differences may effect ecosystem functioning.
