The main focus of my research has been on reproduction in reptiles,
with a particular emphasis on the physiology and ecology of eggs
and embryos. I have studied eggs of all the major groups of reptiles
in the world and have recently been studying viviporous species.
My current research is concerned with physiological and anatomical
differences among vertebrates, particularly lizards, that have different
placental complexities. I also have projects on the ecology of freshwater
turtles, nitrogen and sodium metabolism in lizard eggs and sex determination
in skinks, among others. I maintain active collaborations with other
scientists in Scotland, the USA, Italy, New Zealand and Australia.
